Idea Cellular invests in 700 3G telecom sites in Maharashtra

Telecom operator Idea Cellular has made investment in 700 sites in the 900 MHz band on top of the existing 1,500 3G sites and 1,540 modernized 2G sites to build its 3G internet network at Pune and Nashik in Maharashtra.

The Aditya Birla group company is aiming to double the number of new telecom sites in Pune and Nashik area, two top towns in Maharashtra, within the next one month.

Idea Cellular says 900 MHz spectrum has high-caliber transmission and propagation capabilities. The efficient spectrum will ensure a jam-free, high-speed, superior indoor internet coverage network.

According to the recent telecom statistics from TRAI, Idea Cellular has a revenue market share (RMS) of nearly 33 percent in the Maharashtra and Goa circle. Idea Cellular has over 2.43 crore consumers with over 20 percent being Data users.

Idea Cellular provides 2G and 3G services in more than 34,000 towns and villages in Maharashtra. Idea Cellular has 8,500 3G cell sites and over 11,700 modernized 2G sites in the state.

Rajat Mukarji, chief corporate affairs officer, Idea Cellular, said: “Over the last two years, Idea has invested heavily in acquiring spectrum in the most efficient 900 MHz band and is now setting up a future-ready, modernized network to cater to the growing demand of mobile users.”
