The Nokia E6 can now be pre-booked from the Nokia store
by depositing a sum of Rs 2000. However, here’s a look at some of the features
of the phone and just how it is different from the Nokia E5.
A Touch and Type Monobloc design business smartphone,
with a full QWERTY keypad and a high resolution touch display, the Nokia E6, is
a compact phone with sleek design offering 2G and 3G network. The TFT
capacitive touchscreen, 133 gm smartphone also provides access to Microsoft
Exchange, Microsoft Communicator Mobile and Microsoft SharePoint.
Some of its key security features include device lock and
wipe, secure intranet access and device management. It also offers SMS, MMS,
Email, Push Email, IM on the Symbian Anna OS, and also offers a WAP 2.0/xHTML,
HTML browser. It also has a number of apps, productivity tools, web and
location-based services, games, videos, podcasts available in Ovi Store. The
phone also includes GPS with A-GPS support and MIDP 2.1 Java.
Some of the other technical features of the E6 include 8
GB memory, expandable up to 32 GB, GPRS, Edge, WLAN and Bluetooth availability,
stereo FM radio with RDS, 8 MP camera with dual-LED flash, geo-tagging and face
detection features, USB drive, phonebook with photocall facility, and
detailed call records of up to 30 days. Battery life for 2G is up to 681 h (14
hrs 38 minutes), while for 3G it is up to 744 h (7 hrs 30 minutes). The phone
is available in business colours of white, black and silver.
Nokia E5 though weighing 7 grams more, is smaller in size
at 115.5 x 59 x 10.5 mm, 66 cc, as compared to 115 x 58.9 x 12.8 mm, 75 cc in
the E5. The display is also better with the Nokia E6 TFT capacitive
touchscreen, 16M colors, sized at 640 x 480 pixels, and 2.46 inches, with
features that include gorilla glass display, QWERTY keyboard, multi-touch input
method, accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, and proximity sensor for auto
turn-off.
Nokia E5 has a TFT display, 256K colors, a screen size of
320 x 240 pixels, 2.36 inches, and a QWERTY keyboard. Besides MP3 ringtones
that the Nokia E5 has, the Nokia E6 also has WAV ringtones. Internal memory of
the Nokia E6 is 256 MB RAM, 1GB ROM and 8 GB storage, which is expandable to 32
GB, while the E5 has 250 MB RAM. GPRS and Edge in the Nokia E5 is Class 32,
while it has gone up a notch to Class 33 in the Nokia E6.
While the Nokia E6 has an 8 MP camera with dual-LED flash
and secondary VGA, the Nokia E5 has a 5 MP camera with LED flash, excluding
VGA. While the Nokia E5 has a simple ARM 11 600 MHz processor, the Nokia E6
includes a 600 MHz ARM 11 processor, 2D/3D Graphics HW Accelerator with
OpenVG1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0. Java in the Nokia E6 has been upgraded to MIDP
2.1, from MIDP 2.0 in the Nokia E5. However, the best part of the Nokia E6 over
the Nokia E5 is the battery life – which while for the Nokia E5 has stand-by up
to 635 h (2G) / up to 670 h (3G) with talk time up to 13 h 10 min (2G) / up to
5 h 15 min (3G), the Nokia E6 has stand-by power up to 681 h (2G) / up to 744 h
(3G), with talk time up to 14 h 48 min (2G) / up to 7 h 30 min (3G).
Nokia E5 was recently available at a special price of Rs
9200 for Father’s Day, from the original price of Rs 10, 634. So far, out of
the 108.5 million Nokia handsets sold globally in Q1 2011, 24.2 million were
smartphones, a figure which shows that Nokia smartphone sales have increased 13
percent from a year ago. With Nokia handset prices dropping, as it faces stiff
competition from a growing smartphones market, the handset manufacturer is set
to launch a number of low-priced, feature-rich handsets in APAC markets
shortly.
