Vodafone offers 67% data benefit for one month

Telecom network operator Vodafone India today announced up to 67 percent data benefit to its pre-paid users for one month.

Earlier, both Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular announced up to 63 percent data benefit by offering more GB for the existing package without increasing the price. The increase in data offering is expected to encourage mobile data users to consumers to use more data cost effectively.

“This additional value will enable them to enjoy their mobile internet experience further by staying online longer and accessing more of their favorite content. It will make the Internet more affordable for customers who use mobile internet in a limited way,” said Vodafone India in a statement issued on Monday.

Vodafone India will now offer 5GB of 3G / 4G data pack for Rs 650 against 3 GB data, promising data benefit of 67 percent.

In addition, Vodafone India will offer 3GB data on 3G / 4G network for Rs 449, providing 50 percent more data by increasing the data benefit from 2 GB. Vodafone’s 10 GB data pack will be priced at Rs 999, offering 54 percent more benefits.

The Rs 39 2G sachet pack with 5-day validity now offers 225MB data againt 160 MB, an increase of 41 percent. Vodafone said its Rs 12 3G/4G sachet pack with 1-day validity now offers 50 MB data against 30MB, an increase of 67 percent.

Vodafone India has 199 million customers with 107 million in rural areas. Vodafone does not have a strong presence in the 4G market. Hence these revised data offer mainly benefits consumers on the 3G network. On the other hand, Bharti Airtel has the largest mobile Internet network in India.

The Indian telecom industry is considering that the recent data pricing strategy by Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone India is aimed at controlling the competition from Reliance Jio Infocomm.
