Ericsson to supply LTE 800 MHz network to Finnish telecoms DNA

Telecom equipment vendor Ericsson will supply LTE 800 MHz network to Finnish mobile operator DNA.

Ericsson did not share the size of the deal.

DNA has also assigned the task of improving its existing 4G, 3G and 2G networks to Ericsson, the #1 telecom equipment vendor in the world.

Ericsson, which competes with NSN, Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent, ZTE, Samsung, etc. it will deploy multi-standard RBS 6000 base stations and network management solutions. In addition, Ericsson will provide network rollout services such as installation, civil works, integration, commissioning and associated project management and offer support for software and hardware, spare parts management services and initial tuning.

DNA LTE network is expected to cover 80 percent of Finland’s population by the end of 2014. The new expansion will improve connectivity.

Tommy Olenius, vice president, Technology at DNA, said: “Together with the 4G LTE rollout, also 3G network coverage improvements will be carried out simultaneously, bringing 3G population coverage to up to 99 percent of the population, which is nearly equal to the current GSM coverage.”

Ericsson said 50 percent of the world’s LTE smartphone traffic is served by Ericsson networks, which is more than double the traffic of our closest competitor. Ericsson delivered more than 180 LTE RAN and Evolved Packet Core networks of which more than 120 have gone live commercially.
