Jio 4G customers face 4 crore call drops on Idea network

Telecom network operator Reliance Jio said its customers are facing nearly 4 crore call drops on Idea network on daily basis due to inadequate POIs.

Over 750 calls are failing per 1,000 as against Quality of Service (QoS) requirement. TRAI’s QoS norms suggest that less than 5 calls per 1,000 should fail.

“Idea Cellular’s response to the severe Quality of Service issues faced between the Idea Cellular and Reliance Jio networks is disappointing and displays lack of intent on Idea’s part to resolve this critical issue,” said Reliance Jio.

Over 750 calls per 1,000 are failing per day between Idea Cellular and Jio networks, which translates to 4 crore calls failing per day. Over 12 crore calls fail daily between Jio and the networks of Airtel, Vodafone and Idea.

“This is a breach of license conditions by the incumbent operators and severely impacts customer interests. This is against zero call failures on the Jio network,” said Reliance Jio in a statement.

Since Idea Cellular has operationalized only 50 new E1s in the last 10 days, call failure rate has increased drastically.

The proposed augmentation by Idea Cellular increases capacity by only 34 percent, which is grossly inadequate, said Reliance Jio.

Idea Cellular expands ports

Idea Cellular claimed that it’s now providing 1,865 ports (+230 percent) to Reliance Jio for access against 565 earlier. Idea Cellular will also be increasing the NLD (national long distance service) capacity by nearly 50 percent.

Based on industry practice, 12,500 E1 ports are required for 22 million subscribers. Reliance Jio said top three telecom operators – Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone — have released only 1,400 ports.

Jio would need nearly 8,500 ports to handle a subscriber base of 15 million.
