At the Mobile World Congress 2014, Barcelona, Sequans Communications will display its new LTE consumer device — AirWire LTE Wi-Fi dongle. This will be available in India this year. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio Infocomm are expanding their 4G LTE network on TD-LTE technology.

Built by Pinyon Technologies, a supplier of mobile data products, the AirWire LTE Wi-Fi dongle is based on Sequans’ Mont Blanc LTE Platform.

Pinyon is planning to design and build more such LTE devices based on Sequans’ technology. The first version of the AirWire LTE Wi-Fi dongle is designed for the Indian market and expected to deploy in India in late 2014.

Chip vendor Sequans Communications does not share additional details.

It’s expected that both Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio Infocomm would be expanding their 4G LTE coverage on TD-LTE technology this year.

AirWire LTE Wi-Fi dongle provides Internet connectivity via its built-in Wi-Fi hotspot or USB connection. The dongle operates standalone, enabling multiple devices to connect simultaneously. Laptops, gaming consoles, tablets and all other Wi-Fi devices can now access the Internet anywhere through AirWire’s integrated LTE network connectivity.

The AirWire LTE Wi-Fi dongle can be connected directly to a computer through the USB port, enabling LTE data speeds of 100 Mbps into a connected device. It supports TD-LTE, the prominent 4G platform in India, with future versions supporting FD-LTE. Wi-Fi support covers 802.11 b/g/n, covering all Wi-Fi devices.
