Reliance Jio in telecom tower deal with ATC India

Reliance Jio Infocomm, the Mukesh Ambani promoted 4G venture of RIL, will source telecom tower infrastructure of ATC India, a subsidiary of American Tower Corp.

ATC India has 11,000 telecom towers across the country.

Earlier, Reliance Jio announced similar telecom infrastructure sharing deal with Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications.

“We want to provide empowering products, services and content to every Indian. To this end, we are committed to creating a cutting edge network for high speed 4G. Our relationship with ATC will accelerate the rollout of these services across India,” said Sanjay Mashruwala, managing director, Reliance Jio.

Reliance Jio, which is going slow with the resource additions, is planning to launch 4G on both TD-LTE and FD-LTE technologies, this year. Earlier, Reliance Jio said the company would hire around 10,000 employees this year. But RIL fourth quarter result indicates that resource addition at Reliance Jio is happening at a slow pace. Reliance Jio’s current employee strength at around 3,000 against 10,000 planned earlier.

During the fourth quarter result, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani did not share specific details on the launch date of 4G services.

Recently, CARE Research said the delay in 4G launches by Reliance Jio Infocomm can partially be attributed to regulatory uncertainty, under-developed ecosystem, unavailability of spectrum in the lower frequency range, etc.
