BSNL, Airtel, MTNL dominance keeps fixed broadband price high

Indian telecom operators such as BSNL, MTNL, Bharti Airtel, Hathway and Beam Telecom have some less competitive fixed broadband price plans to offers their customers.

These plans provide high speed internet – with conditions — through fixed line connection and allows unlimited Internet usage. Due to lack of strong presence geographically and lack of investment by telecom operators, Indian broadband user are suffering. Indian broadband users face low speed, poor quality of services, frequent tariff changes, etc.

Since telecoms are not interested in acquiring fixed broadband users and expanding further, there is virtually no major competition in India.

The state-run BSNL has a variety of broadband plans including high speed broadband plans. BSNL offers a Rs 545 plan that provides a speed of 512 kbps and unlimited usage for one month.

BSNL has a Rs 795 plan that allows user to surf internet at a speed of 2 Mbps till 8 GB, post 8GB the speed will reduce to 512 kbps.

There is a Rs 999 plan that offers 4 Mbps speed till 8GB and 512 kbps post 8GB. The plan also offers 400 free calls to BSNL phones. Post 400 calls the call charges will be Rs 1 / min and Rs 1.2 / min for other networks.

On paying Rs 1425 the BSNL users get to use 20GB of data at a speed of 4 Mbps and 512 kbps post 20GB. The plan also offers 250 free BSNL calls.

Users can surf 40GB at 2 Mbps by paying Rs 1800 while for 100GB at 1 Mbps, users have to pay Rs 2,250. There is also a 200 GB plan for Rs 6,300 that has a speed of 4 Mbps and provides 500 BSNL free calls.

Next to follow is MTNL, another state-run telecom operator, which also has unlimited broadband plans to offer. MTNL offers an unlimited plan at Rs 597 with a speed of 512 kbps throughout.

There is a Rs 999 plan that allows user to surf at a speed of 1 Mbps throughout the month and also provides 200 free calls.

On paying Rs 1,899 user get to use Internet at a speed of 2 Mbps but the upload speed is 512 kbps. There is also an unlimited plan at 4 Mbps speed for Rs 3,499 and 200 free calls.

There is also a Rs 749 combo plan that has a speed of 768kbps with 100 calls free.

Bharti Airtel, the Sunil Mittal promoted telecom venture, on the other side offers a Rs 849 plan at 1 Mbps speed for 7 GB and 512 kbps post 7GB plus free 250 minutes calling (Airtel-to-Airtel).

On paying Rs 1,099 users get 2 Mbps speed for 9GB and 512 kbps post 9GB. The Rs 1,499 plan allows user to surf at 8 Mbps for 25GB and 512 kbps post 25GB plus 1,000 minutes local calls free.

tabletsAirtel has a high speed broadband plan of Rs 1,649 that provides a speed of 16 Mbps for 35 GB and 512 kbps post 35 GB and also offers 1,000 minutes free local calls.

For Rs 3,649 users get 16 Mbps speed up to 175 GB and 512 kbps after that plus 1,000 minutes of local calls free. There is a Rs 5,999 plan with 100 Mbps speed till 100 GB and 512 kbps post 100 GB and also allows unlimited calls.

Hathway does not offer many plans to its subscribers compared to other leading operators. It has a Rs 799 monthly plan that offers 2 Mbps speed up to 15 GB and 512 kbps post 15 GB.

Hathway also offers a Rs 999 monthly plan that allows 25 GB usage at a speed of 5 Mbps and 1 Mbps post 25 GB.

There is Rs 800 monthly plan that has a 1 Mbps speed for unlimited usage and provides 3 Mbps speed from 12 am to 9 am.

There is a similar plan of Rs 525 with 512 kbps speed, but offers 2.5 Mbps for 12 am to 9 am.

Beam Fiber also offers high speed broadband plans at a low cost. It offers a 1 Mbps plan for 30 GB at Rs 410. The speed will reduce to 512 kbps after 30 GB.

There is a 35 GB plan at 4 Mbps speed for Rs 615 and 786 kbps speed post 35 GB. The Rs 999 plan offers 15 Mbps speed for 60 GB and 2 Mbps speed post 60 GB.

On paying Rs 2499 users get to use 100 GB at 50 Mbps speed and 6 Mbps post 100 GB. Users get 200 GB at 50 Mbps speed on paying Rs 2799 and 6 Mbps speed post 200 GB.

Both Hathway and Beam Fiber offers cheaper broadband plans and also offer higher internet speed compared to the leading telecom operators.

BSNL, MTNL and Airtel Bharti have very costly plans if compared to Hathway and Beam Fiber offers.

Beam Fiber also offers more data usage limit than other competitive operators. It has most cost effective plans than any other telecom operator.
