India broadband speed reaches 2 Mbps against global average of 4.6 Mbps

The global average broadband connection speed increased 21 percent in the second quarter of 2014 to 4.6 Mbps from the first quarter, said Akamai.

Akamai said 8 of the top 10 countries / regions saw double-digit percentage increases from the first to the second quarter of 2014.

South Korea broadband speed grew 4 percent to 24.6 Mbps.

Average broadband speed in Hong Kong rose 18 percent to 15.7 Mbps.

Japan now matches Switzerland with an average connection speed of 14.9 Mbps.

Four of the top 10 countries experienced year-over-year increases of more than 50 percent in average connection speeds.

Uruguay has broadband speed of 5.6 Mbps, while the United Arab Emirates has 4.6 Mbps speed.

Average peak broadband connection speed

The global average peak connection speed increased 20 percent to 25.4 Mbps from the first quarter to the second quarter of 2014. Year over year, the global average peak connection speed was up by 34 percent.

Average peak connection speed increased .3 percent in Iraq to 30.4 Mbps.

A total of 125 countries/regions experienced increases over the year, from 0.1 percent in Lebanon (4.2 Mbps) to 225 percent in Uruguay (49.7 Mbps).
