ARRIS to supply STBs to digital cable TV operator JAINHITS

ARRIS Group on Monday said it will supply STBs (set top boxes) to JAINHITS, a digital cable TV distribution platform in India.

India’s HITS-based Direct to Network (DTN) service will utilize ARRIS’s HMC portfolio to deliver digital video services across the nation.

JK Jain, chairman of JAINHITS, said: “ARRIS set-tops will allow cable operators to provide 250 digital TV channels using 12 frequencies as compared to the 106 they are using today. This will help them free valuable spectrum.”

HMC1010 SD set-top and the HMC2010 HD set-top are cost-effective digital terminal adapters (DTA) for operators. HMC series set-tops including HMC1010 and HMC2010, minimizes energy usage.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) says India will have approximately 100 million digital homes by the end of this year.

JAINHITS offers more than 252 standard definition (SD) channels. It plans to provide full high-definition (HD) services, which will be made available via the new ARRIS set-tops.

ARRIS revenue up 60% in Q2

In August 2014, ABI Research said set-top box revenues rose 5 percent in Q2 2014 from a set of major OEMs. ARRIS revenue grew about 60 percent year-over-year to $711 million.

Cisco revenue fell 30 percent to $332 million, while Humax saw substantial revenue growth of 30 percent.

This increase in revenue was driven by increasing ASPs because of a greater focus on operators’ deployment of gateway boxes, which command higher values per box. From a platform perspective, IPTV saw gains while other platforms saw fewer shipments among the major international OEMs, said ABI Research.
