Cisco in video deal with Kabel Deutschland

Cisco today announced a deal with Kabel Deutschland, a Vodafone company, to assist in creating its next generation video service.

Subscribers of Kabel Deutschland, which offers video service in thirteen German federal states, can access video through a single immersive user interface which works across all their TVs and personal devices.

Kabel Deutschland’s users of next generation video service — on a new cloud-powered TV platform — will use connected devices from Cisco.

The Vodafone company will unveil further details of the future TV service that is expected to be market-ready in the fiscal year 2016-17 at the IFA 2015 in Berlin in September 2015.

Kabel Deutschland

Kabel Deutschland operates cable networks in 13 German federal states and supplies services to 8.3 million connected households. Kabel Deutschland posted revenues of EUR 1,900 million and adjusted EBITDA of EUR 910 million for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2014.

Meanwhile, at CES 2015, Cisco is demonstrating how it is helping service providers, broadcasters, and media and entertainment companies to transform their business to capture the benefits of the Internet of Everything (IoE) with cloud-based video solutions, virtualized managed services solutions and much more.

Manuel Cubero, CEO of Kabel Deutschland, said: “Our video future lies in delivering converged, personalized, social, multi-screen video experiences, from a standardized, IP-based, cloud-powered platform. We have chosen Cisco as our partner for software and set-top boxes because Cisco shares these fundamental tenets, and their products and plans best realize them.”
