SITI Cable selects Cisco DOCSIS 3.0 technology to launch cable broadband

Indian cable TV MSO SITI Cable has selected Cisco DOCSIS 3.0 technology to launch cable broadband services in the country.

DOCSIS 3.0 technology will enable SITI Cable to offer high quality Internet with speeds of up to 100 Mbps and high data networks compared with offers from existing telecom Internet service providers (ISPs).

India, according to the latest TRAI data on the telecom industry, has nearly 74 million broadband subscribers including wired and wireless.

Sanjay Kaul, managing director, Service Provider Sales, Cisco India & SAARC, said: “We believe that the cable TV industry has the potential to transform the broadband industry in India and would like to congratulate SITI Cable for marking an important milestone on this roadmap.”

DOCSIS 3.0, a key component of Cisco IP next generation network (NGN) architecture, can deliver download speeds of up to 300 Mbps per subscriber compared with 24 Mbps for the existing ADSL2+ technology.

DOCSIS 3.0 also increases the upload capacity up to 100 Mbps compared with 1 Mbps provided by ADSL2+.

Cisco lost three points in telecom service provider router market share in 2013

SITI Cable, which is already providing Internet services in the eastern part of India, expanded to Delhi and NCR region on the DOCSIS 3.0 platform. It plans to roll out broadband Internet services in other cities in the near future.

The company has 4.3 million digital cable TV subscribers and provides cable TV services in 100+ cities and adjoining areas, reaching out to over 10 million viewers.

VD Wadhwa, chief executive officer, SITI Cable, said: “With the deployment of this technology, we are uniquely positioned to offer superior Internet browsing, video streaming, video surveillance and rich media content on the same coaxial cable that delivers high-quality digital cable TV signals. We will offer much higher speed at highly competitive price.”
