Nokia Siemens unveils radio heads aimed at spectrum refarming

Telecom Lead @ Mobile World Congress 2013: Nokia Siemens will unveil industry’s smallest radio heads aimed at spectrum refarming deployments.
The 2-pipe version — according to Nokia Siemens — is suitable for spectrum refarming deployments.

The 4-pipe version is designed for use with advanced antenna systems.

The mobile broadband major has already launched 4-pipe radio head in the North American market.

Nokia Siemens claims that new baseband integration provides up to twice the capacity for LTE and HSPA+ without additional space requirements, while security services for LTE address latent security risks.

Nokia Siemens’ new products in the Flexi Multiradio portfolio help operators reduce operating expenses related to GSM, 3G and LTE sites.

The small size and high output power of the new Single RAN 2x60W remote radio head enables operators to run radio technologies concurrently — HSPA+ and LTE on existing GSM frequency — with one radio head.

Moreover, the Flexi Multiradio Remote Radio Head 2TX can be mounted on existing masts, avoiding the potential costs of building new support structures.

The new 4-pipe radio head targets LTE networks using antenna systems with four transmission and reception paths instead of the usual two paths.

The Flexi Multiradio Remote Radio Head 4TX will help enhance the data rates of users at the edge of a radio cell and as a result optimize the user experience.

NSN is also introducing capacity extension sub-modules that are plugged into existing expansion slots in the Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station, to help meet mobile broadband traffic growth.

Meanwhile, Nokia Siemens’ Smart Scheduler, a software in the Flexi Base Station, enables operators to enhance uplink capacity by up to 25 percent.
