Line messenger app launched in India

Line, a free calling and messaging application, is available in India.

Line mobile messenger service is available on both smartphones and PCs across multiple carriers and operating systems including iOS, Android, Nokia Asha, Windows phone, BlackBerry, Windows and Mac.

The new messaging app is capable of various types of communication with free call, voice chat and sticker chat.

Recently, WeChat, a mobile social communication application with 300 million registered user accounts worldwide, has introduced “Official Accounts” on its platform, a feature that can be utilized by companies and merchants to build interactivity with their fans in a new and innovative way.

Brands like Café Coffee Day, Big Bazaar, Yahoo! Cricket, Goibibo, Santa Banta, and Tradus are amongst the earliest brands to start their Official Accounts on WeChat in India.

India launch is part of Line’s global strategy. Line has already strengthened its presence in Asia, Europe and the U.S.

Akira Morikawa, CEO, LINE Corporation, said, “Line has grown to more than 180 million in only 23 months after its launch. Today, it delivers 5 billion calls and messages across the world on its network per day.”

India will be a key market for Line since the country has a growing mobile and internet penetration and lower bandwidth costs.

Line has over 180 million registered users across 230 countries. Out of this, 45 million users are in Japan. Taiwan and Thailand hold more than 15 million users and 10 million users in Indonesia.

In Spain, the free messenger app has more than 10 million registered users. In addition, South American countries such as Mexico and Argentine are also witnessing significant registrations.

As part of expansion plans, Line will launch fun stickers that will suit the Indian sensibilities in the near future.
