Swisscom uses Apigee to enhance APIs and related apps delivery

Telecom Lead America: Swisscom has chosen API company Apigee to drive an ecosystem of apps built on Swisscom’s network-based services.

Heinz Herren, CTO at Swisscom, said: “Swisscom was looking for a solution that could be used across all its API initiatives, both internal and external to Swisscom. Apigee offered the technology and industry-specific expertise to drive Swisscom’s commitment to APIs. Swisscom expects the introduction of APIs to dramatically reduce their time to market.”

Apigee supports business development while helping businesses to deliver and manage APIs and the apps built on them. Apigee Enterprise,  Apigee’s flagship offering , is an API platform that simplifies API delivery, drives developer adoption, provides comprehensive analysis and control of API usage, and helps businesses scale as API channels grow.

Chet Kapoor, Apigee CEO, said, “APIs are the key to developing a platform that unlocks the value of network services to bring new capabilities to developers and consumers.”

Recently Apigee launched the Apigee API Exchange – an API interoperability platform for the telecommunications industry. The API Exchange provides a platform for integrating operator services into mobile apps, widening the reach of operators and developers to the broadest possible market. It breaks down the barriers to data accessibility in industries affected by fragmentation and makes industry-wide consumption of data and services possible. Consumers can now experience new, telco-enhanced mobile apps.

Apart from Swisscom, the list of telecom service providers that have adopted Apigee’s API Platform include AT&T, KT, Telefonica and Vodafone. Some other clients are AT&T, Netflix, eBay, Pearson, and Gilt Groupe. Thousands of developers use Apigee to simplify the delivery, management and analysis of APIs.
