MWC 2014: Elitecore to unveil improved Wi-Fi SMP for LTE-Wi-Fi interworking

At the Mobile World Congress 2014, Elitecore Technologies will unveil its improved Wi-Fi SMP for supporting LTE-Wi-Fi interworking.

In a statement, the Ahmadabad-based (India) Elitecore Technologies said the new Wi-Fi Service Management Platform (SMP) enables global telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, China Mobile, Verizon, etc. to deploy customer-centric next-generation services in a heterogeneous 4G-LTE network.

The new features include Evolved AAA which addresses authentication challenges of subscribers in LTE supporting diameter-based EAP authentication along with radius-based authentication for radius supportive networks like Wi-Fi.

The Evolved AAA helps efficient communication on LTE network to quickly deliver customization and solve interoperability challenges, said Elitecore Technologies, a Carlyle Group investee company.

Dhaval Vora, VP, Product Management, Elitecore Technologies, said: “To roll out services simultaneously across LTE, 3G and Wi-Fi, operators face challenges in maintaining IP session continuity for users when changing the network access mode.”

The Evolved AAA feature supports LTE Wi-Fi interworking by providing the Wx interface support for HSS authentication over LTE network for additional Authentication parameters based on subscriber profile, authorization information update, ePDG initiated session termination and S2b interface support towards PGW.

Dell’Oro Group recently said service provider Wi-Fi revenues will more than double between 2013 and 2018.

“While we have lowered our expectations for SP WiFi, we have raised our licensed small cell expectations to account for new product announcements by Ericsson, NSN, and Huawei increasing the likelihood service providers will include small cells in their budgets,” said Stefan Pongratz, director of Dell’Oro Group’s RAN and Small Cell Programs.

Dell’Oro Group says telecom service providers would prefer to roll out macros as long as possible, we firmly believe as the focus continues to shift from outdoor coverage to improving performance in high-traffic areas and indoors, that the case for small cells will eventually not only make sense from a spatial efficiency perspective, but it will also be compelling from a business point of view.
