BlackBerry CEO John Chen: to add Passport, Classic, BBM for Windows

BlackBerry Chief Executive Officer John Chen on Thursday announced new products and services and focus areas for the current fiscal.

One of the main events BlackBerry will be doing this year will on enterprise security. “In Q2, we are planning a Blackberry Security Summit Event in July — most likely in New York City,” Chen added.

In September, BlackBerry will host an event to showcase its device portfolio for FY 2015.

BlackBerry is launching a brand new device called Passport in September in London. Classic will be coming out in November.

Other major releases planned for FY 2015 including the BBM for Windows in July.

“In September, we intended to release the BBM Meetings. In November we will release our BES12 and QNX cloud will come in December,” Chen said.

BlackBerry Z30 to launch in Indonesia first

BlackBerry has an overall revenue target of $100 million in FY 2016 from BBM and value-added services.

The Canadian smartphone vendor has 30,000 plus installation on the BES10, while 80,000 installations from the BBOS7.

BlackBerry reported a net profit of $23 million in the quarter ended May 31. It had posted a net loss of $84 million is the year-ago period.

Growth drivers were smartphone sales and higher adoption of enterprise services.

BlackBerry sold 1.6 million smartphones in the March-May quarter and issued 1.2 million BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 licenses.

Revenue for the first quarter of its fiscal 2015 dipped 1 percent to $966 million.

About 39 percent of the revenue came from hardware, including handsets, 54 percent from services and 7 percent from software and other revenue.
