Huawei Consumer revenue surges 36% to $15.6 bn in H1

Huawei phone campaign in ChinaHuawei Consumer Business revenue increased 36.2 percent to CNY 105.4 billion or $15.6 billion for the first six months of 2017.

Huawei said its smartphone shipments rose 20.6 percent to 73.01 million. Huawei did not reveal the second quarter revenue for its consumer business.

Huawei said its total revenue in first half of 2017 rose 15 percent to CNY 283.1 billion or $42 billion with an operating margin of 11 percent.

Samsung said the revenue of the company’s mobile division increased 13 percent to 30 trillion won following the demand for the latest Galaxy S8 and S8 plus high-end models, but its operating profit was reduced due to an increase in component costs.

Samsung’s total turnover rose 19.76 percent to 61 trillion won in Q2 2017.

Huawei excels

“Our Consumer Business Group continued to deliver extraordinary growth, beating the industry average and penetrating high-end markets around the globe,” said Richard Yu, chief executive officer of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group.

In Q1 2017, Huawei’s market share rose to 9.8 percent of the global smartphone market — driven by a significant increase in sales of mid-range and high-end smartphones in key geographies, according to industry analysts IDC.

Huawei has 22.1 percent market share in Greater China where shipments increased 24 percent.  Huawei reported 18 percent growth in smartphone shipment across Europe.

Market research firms GfK and Sino said Huawei’s Honor brand topped both Internet smartphone sales volume and sales revenue in China from January to May, 2017.

Huawei is set to grow its retail network, reaching 56,000 retail stores worldwide in 2017, an increase from 35,000 in May 2016.
