4G smartphones with MediaTek MT6595 chip is expected to land in India this year.

MediaTek today announced that its MT6595, the world’s first True Octa-core 4G LTE System on Chip (SoC), has reached commercialization in India. Devices embedded with MT6595 chip are expected to arrive in the Indian market by the end of the year.

Smartphones with MediaTek chips are cost effective than Qualcomm, the leading wireless chip vendor in the world.

Telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Uninor, Videocon Telecom, etc. are looking at rolling out 4G services using FD-LTE technology next year. On the other hand, Reliance Jio Infocomm, the 4G venture of Reliance Industries (RIL) will be rolling out 4G services on both FD-LTE and TD-LTE technologies.

In a statement, MediaTek said it is looking forward to associating with Indian smartphone makers.

“MediaTek is focused on delivering a range of 4G LTE platforms, and the MT6595 is the first of many to arrive in India. Our 4G LTE solutions support all modes including TDD LTE, which is important for India because infrastructure providers in the country are currently focusing on the TDD LTE network,” said Finbarr Moynihan, general manager – Corporate Sales International, of MediaTek.

Recently, MediaTek announced its expansion plans for the Indian market with an investment of $200 million.

MediaTek has also launched a new R&D facility in Bengaluru.
