Alcatel-Lucent’s Q4 revenues dip 1.3% to €4.1 billion, net loss at €1.3 billion

Telecom Lead Europe: Alcatel-Lucent posted 1.3 percent decrease in Q4 2012 revenue to €4.096 billion.

Its networks business impacted the fourth quarter revenue.

However, Alcatel-Lucent sees better wireless revenue. Revenues for the wireless division increased 2.2 percent to €913 million.

North America posted 10 percent growth.

Asia Pacific generated double-digit decline.

Alcatel-Lucent experienced low activity in China and cautious spending in Europe.

Brazil, Middle East and Africa returned back to growth after several quarters of decline.

The telecom equipment major has reported net loss of €1.372 billion in Q4.

In Q4 2012, revenues for the Networks segment decreased 2.2 percent to €2.421 billion.

Revenues for the IP division increased 26.4 percent to €574 million. Progression in the Americas and new deals in Japan and China contributed to the growth.

In 2012, the IP division sales increased 24.2 percent.

Revenues for the Optics division decreased 22 percent to €565 million.

Alcatel-Lucent’s WDM flagship product, the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) represented 24 percent of terrestrial optics revenues in 2012, close to double compared to the previous year.

The relative share of 100G shipments has increased from 5 percent in 2011 to 12 percent in 2012.

Revenues for the wireless division increased 2.2 percent to €913 million.

In 2012, the transition from 2G/3G to 4G in North America and an overall continued cautiousness in the rest of the world has led to a 35 percent decline of its legacy technologies, partially offset by a healthy LTE growth.

Revenues in 2012 marked the first full year of growth of its wireline business since the merger of Alcatel and Lucent, driven by fiber roll-outs for nationwide broadband initiatives.

In Q4, wireline sales declined 7.4 percent to €388 million.

Sales of its High Leverage Networks (HLN) products increased 7 percent to €1,281 million in the fourth quarter 2012.

IN Q4, revenues for Software, Services and Solutions segment were € 1,387 million, an increase of 5.5 percent compared to € 1,315 million in the year-ago quarter.

IN Q4, Enterprise business revenues decreased 3.7 percent to €207 million.
