Ericsson to power VoLTE network of Vodafone Hutchison Australia

Ericsson has been selected by Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) to implement core technology upgrade for its VoLTE network.

Vodafone Australia will leverage Ericsson’s core network solutions, consulting and transformation services enabling an evolution to an all-IP network with enhanced reliability, efficiency and performance, the company said.

The network, powered by Ericsson’s IP Multimedia Subsystem, will deliver Voice over LTE (VoLTE). Ericsson will also supply its policy control and circuit-switched core to further enhance network robustness, performance and resiliency, the company said.

Ericsson will provide integration services for voice and packet core that will support VHA to transform its operations business and enable a more enriched customer offering.

The IMS platform provides the foundation for the introduction of next-generation communication services over LTE, such as voice over LTE (VoLTE). It will support HD voice calling.

The VoLTE also allows users to access voice and data services at the same time over LTE, without compromising data connectivity speeds.

Under the agreement, Ericson will help VHA virtualize their entire network in a period of five years.

Benoit Hanssen, CTO, VHA says, “Our choice of Ericsson’s technology and services is an essential part of VHA’s program to increase our network performance and customer satisfaction.”

Håkan Eriksson, head of Ericsson Australia & New Zealand, said, “Our agreement with VHA includes delivering our complete core solution and introducing voice over LTE. With Ericsson VHA will upgrade network architecture which will improve network reliability, performance and efficiency.”
