Ericsson to supply LTE network to Taiwanese telecoms Far EasTone

Mobile equipment vendor Ericsson will supply LTE 4G network to Taiwanese telecoms Far EasTone.

As per the LTE deal, Ericsson will supply hardware, software and support services. It will also assist Far EasTone for rolling out multi-access RAN and core network for both 3G and 4G services with network optimization.

Ericsson does not share financial details of the 4G and 3G contract.

The Taiwanese telecoms is looking at a nationwide rollout of LTE network. Far EasTone customers around the country will benefit from speeds of up to 150 Mbps/50 Mbps (downlink/uplink) with 20 MHz LTE frequency bandwidth for smartphone and mobile broadband use. To speed up the network roll out, the 700 and 1800 MHz bands will both be supported.

The telecoms did not share specific plans and time frame for completing the 4G network launch.

Ericsson will deploy its 4G CBS (Cell Broadcast System) which will enable the Taiwanese government and consumers to avail of disaster warning services.

Ericsson claims that 50 percent of the world’s LTE smartphone traffic is served by Ericsson networks, which is more than double the traffic of its closest competitor. It also delivered more than 190 LTE RAN and Evolved Packet Core networks, of which more than 130 have gone live commercially. But Ericsson does not have any commercial contracts in the Indian LTE market at present.
