Fiber channel switch revenues surpass $476 million in Q1

Telecom Lead America: Fiber channel switch revenues
surpassed $476 million in first quarter of 2012.

 

Dell’Oro Group said Brocade has gained six points of
revenue share in 1Q12, reaching above 71, and the highest since 4Q09.

 

Brocade leads Fibre Channel SAN switch market, Cisco in
FCoE-capable switches

Research
said Brocade has maintained its leadership with 2/3 of
the global revenue from the Fiber Channel SAN switch market in 2011. In 2011,
Brocade was leading the Fibre Channel SAN switch market, closely followed
by Cisco.

 

Brocade has had two consecutive strong Fibre Channel
switch quarters, calendar 1Q12 being their best ever for Fiber Channel switch
revenue, reaching just under $340 million.

 

With Brocade’s momentum, the continued ramp of Intel’s
Romley platform, and Cisco’s fiscal year end and strongest month coming in
July, the research firm expects to see strength in the overall Fiber Channel
market in the second half of 2012.

 

Fiber Channel continues to have legs and, while the
unprecedented growth in unstructured data is increasing the need for file based
storage alternatives, we have learned that Fiber Channel SAN storage in also
being deployed in cloud service provider infrastructures alongside NAS
systems,” said Casey Quillin, senior analyst at Dell’Oro Group.

 

The report also discusses trends in storage area
networking, the outlook for Fiber Channel switches and adapters, and
alternative SAN technologies, such as FCoE.
