Nokia achieves 375 Mbps data rates with of LTE-Advanced 3x CA

TeliaSonera telecom operator

Nokia Networks in association with TeliaSonera has achieved up to 375 Mbps data rates during a live demo of LTE-Advanced three-band Carrier Aggregation (3x CA) using Category 9 (CAT 9) devices.

The telecom network vendor conducted the demo on TeliaSonera’s commercial network in Helsinki, aggregating 3 LTE FDD carriers of 20MHz, 20MHz and 10MHz bandwidth to deliver ultra-fast data speeds, strengthening network capacity and providing better customer experience.

TeliaSonera plans to roll out the advanced service network-wide once compatible devices are available.

Nokia Networks utilized single RAN Advanced platform, including the Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station for throughput. The telecom equipment vendor has also upgraded the software to aggregate two 20 MHz carriers in 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz bands with one additional 10 MHz carrier in 800 MHz band.

“Through this trial of 3X CA our network has delivered high data throughtputs with reliability, meaning our customers will benefit from superfast multimedia applications and services once the technology is rolled out commercially,” said Timo Hietalahti, head of Architecture and Development at TeliaSonera Finland.

Meanwhile, Nokia Networks has demonstrated Asia’s first TDD-FDD 3 carrier aggregation using the Snapdragon X12 LTE modem from Qualcomm Technologies, achieving peak downlink speeds of 365 Mbps.

During the demo, 20 MHz ofFDD band 1 contributed 145 Mbps and 40 MHz of TDD band 41 giving 220 Mbps. The telecom vendor used radio equipment from Nokia’s Specialized Technology Center in Japan .

Nokia was the first to achieve TDD-FDD 2 carrier aggregation.

Nokia Networks has supplied TD-LTE to 10 networks out of 17 TDD-FDD LTE commercially deployed networks.
