Nokia names Sanjay Malik as India head

Nokia
Telecom network maker Nokia today announced the appointment of Sanjay Malik as the head of India market.

Sanjay Malik will replace Sandeep Girotra, who will become the head of Asia Pacific and Japan market at Nokia.

Based in Gurgaon, Sanjay Malik will lead customer operations, drive the business growth strategy and customer engagement services for the India market.

Sanjay Malik is currently head of Network Implementation (NI) at Nokia Global Services and is credited with driving growth and delivering strong performance both in terms of revenue and operational efficiency.

Previously, Sanjay Malik was heading Bharti GCBT (Global CBT), where he led the transformation of the business by enhancing customer satisfaction, market share and business results across India and Africa. Bharti Airtel is one of the main customers of Nokia India.

Sanjay Malik, who joined Nokia in 2000, takes over from Sandeep Girotra, who has been heading the Indian market since 2011. Nokia in a statement said Sandeep Girotra will become the head of Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) market for Nokia.

Sanjay Malik said: “I look forward to serving our customers in the region as we continue to deliver superior products and enable service providers to provide world-class voice and data services to their subscribers.”

Nokia is appointing a company veteran to head the Indian telecom market at a time when telecom operators are making investment in 3G and 4G networks. Indian telecoms are also going to face spectrum auction, which will be a $85 billion opportunity for the India government, in July / August 2016.
