Switch and router market share of Cisco, Huawei and HPE

IDC has recently revealed the switch and router market share of Cisco, Huawei and HPE during the second quarter of 2017.

The enterprise and service provider (SP) router market rose 6.7 percent to $3.92 billion — based on 11.2 percent increase in the larger service provider segment and 7.1 percent decrease in enterprise routing.

The Ethernet switch market posted 7.8 percent increase in revenue to $6.43 billion in the second quarter of 2017.

Cisco has achieved 3.8 percent increase in the Ethernet switching market and market share of 54.7 percent against 55.1 percent share in Q1 2017 and 56.8 percent in Q2 2016.

Cisco’s service provider and enterprise router revenue decreased 1.9 percent on an annualized basis, while its market share dropped to 41.2 percent from 43.9 percent in Q1 2017, and 44.8 percent in Q2 2016.

Huawei’s Ethernet switch revenue grew 39.9 percent for a market share of 8.5 percent against 6.3 percent in Q1 2017 and 6.5 percent in Q2 2016. Huawei’s enterprise and SP router revenue increased 41.7 percent to 25.2 percent from 19.8 percent in Q1 2017 and 18.9 percent in Q2 2016.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) Ethernet switch revenue decreased 0.4 percent and its market share stands at 5.6 percent against 6 percent in Q1 2017 and 6 percent share in Q2 2016.

Arista Networks Ethernet switching revenue rose 50.2 percent year over year and earning a market share of 5.5 percent, up from 3.9 percent in 2Q16.

Juniper’s Ethernet switching revenue surged 33.2 percent for a market share of 4.3 percent against 3.5 percent in Q2 2016. Juniper’ service provider and enterprise router revenues fell 0.4 percent for market share of 14.6 percent compared to 15.7 percent in Q2 2016.

“Application explosion associated with digital transformation and continued proliferation of cloud buildouts underpinned a strong market performance,” said Rohit Mehra, vice president, Network Infrastructure at IDC.
