Intracom Telecom today said it deployed small cell backhaul platform StreetNode for a live small cell field trial for Telefonica UK.
During the trial that took place in Newark-on-Trent in an industrial park in the East Midlands region, Telefonica UK tested the StreetNode solution in a live small cell network.
The company said the small cell backhaul platform’s software defined operation allowed activation and reconfiguration in the field in Point-to-Point (PtP) and Point-to-MultiPoint (PtMP) mode showing flexibility. Telefonica UK assessed ease of deployment and the capability of the small cell back haul system to support live traffic from the latest generation of small cells.
The trial proved that a street lighting contractor who had received minimal training could install and commission a StreetNode unit easily. Telefonica could monitor the deployment locally by use of apps running on Android Smartphones which connected through Bluetooth with the StreetNode.
Intracom Telecom managed the system remotely via Telefónica UK’s Network Management Centre using Intracom Telecom’s management platform, uni|MS. Live traffic was carried with 100 percent availability through the trial period.

The units were physically deployed in under 30 minutes at each location and performed well in a challenging environment.”
