Airtel launches 3G Wi-Fi dongle in Delhi-NCR

Airtel announced the launch of its 3G Wi-Fi dongle in Delhi-NCR allowing users to “create a Wi-Fi hotspot anywhere, anytime.”

All they have to do to create the Wi-Fi hotspot is to just plug the dongle to any USB port – be it laptop, phone charger or even a car stereo, Airtel said.

The Delhi-NCR rollout of the Wi-Fi dongle follows its launch in Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, Chennai and Tamil Nadu recently. The service will be introduced across the country in a phased manner, Airtel said.

Powered by the HSPA+ technology, Airtel service promises download speeds of up to 21 Mbps on 3G.

Users can connect up to 5 devices – mobile, tablet, laptop – on a single hotspot.

Airtel has also announced a number of offers including cash backs and data benefits to lure customers to the service.

The dongle is available across all major retail outlets and Airtel stores across the city.

Airtel is betting big on 3G service in India. Airtel India 3G subscriber base rose 101 percent to 12.53 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2014-15, the company said after announcing the financial results for the quarter.

The company’s total mobile data user base increased 52 percent to 39.32 million. Mobile data users represent 18.8 percent of total user base in Q1 fiscal 2015 against 13.6 percent in Q1 fiscal 2014.
