Bharti Airtel achieves 300 million telecom customers

Mobile service provider Bharti Airtel today said it achieved 300 million telecom customers in Asia and Africa.

The Sunil Mittal promoted company added 100 million customers in less than two years.

Airtel said its 300 million customers include users of mobile – 2G, 3G and 3G — fixed line & DSL, and DTH services.

The telecom operator, which began operations in 1995, has achieved commendable milestones in the past.

It reached the 100 million customers mark in 2009, and crossed the 200 million mark in 2012.

Gopal Vittal, managing director and CEO (India and South Asia) of Bharti Airtel said: “Accelerated data consumption by the youth is going to be the underlying story. I am confident that Airtel will continue to be at the forefront of this future growth story and continue to delight customers by adding value to their lives.”

The company, which is the fourth largest telecom operator globally, is the largest telecommunications company in India by customers and revenue. Airtel was the first telecom operator to launch 4G in 2012 at a time when rivals such as Reliance Jio Infocomm are still struggling to find a way forward.

In Africa, Bharti Airtel is the largest mobile operator in the continent in terms of geographical footprint, which spans 17 countries with over 70 million customers.

Airtel’s mobile networks cover over 1.85 billion people across its operations in 20 countries and carry over 311 billion minutes of calls every quarter.
