Globe Telecom has invested around PHP11.4 billion or $246 million in capital expenditures (Capex) in the first half of 2015.

The focus of Globe Telecom’s investment plan was to support the growing subscriber base and its demand for data. At present, Globe has 26,874 base stations. The number of 4G LTE base stations of Globe Telecom is more than 16,900.

Due to the Capex plan, Globe Telecom achieved double digit growth in data revenues during the first half of the year.

“We will continue to uphold our leadership in the digital space by creating the best digital lifestyle experience for the Filipinos,” said Ernest L Cu, president and CEO of Globe Telecom.

Globe Telecom said its service revenues rose 13 percent to PHP53.8 billion or $1.16 billion.

The mobile business posted 10 percent growth in revenues to PHP41.6 billion. At the end of June 2015, Globe Telecom’s mobile subscriber base rose 13 percent to 48.4 million.

Mobile data revenues of Globe Telecom increased 53 percent to PHP9.5 billion, while mobile voice revenues grew 7 percent and SMS revenues dipped 6 percent.

Broadband revenues of Globe Telecom stood at PHP7.6 billion as of end June 2015, with total subscriber base reaching nearly 3.5 million — driven by subscriber expansion in both the wireless (+64 percent) and wired (+14 percent) services.

Globe’s fixed line data business increased 20 percent to PHP3.1 billion, mainly due to the expansion in circuit count and increased usage fuelled by the demand for data connectivity, managed services and cloud solutions.
