Nokia Networks inks new managed services deal with Etisalat Nigeria

Nokia Networks today said telecom operator Etisalat Nigeria has renewed managed services for three more years.

The new managed services deal also includes expanded services scope. Nokia Networks will manage 3G and GSM networks and improve telecom network efficiency of Etisalat Nigeria to enhance mobile broadband service experience.

One of the main strategies of Etisalat is to improve the operational efficiency. Etisalat Nigeria has a subscriber base of 19 million.

Matthew Willsher, CEO, Etisalat Nigeria, said: “Compared to the previous managed service model, the new agreement covers end-to-end operations and maintenance management for all network elements at Etisalat sites.”

Nokia Networks has also improved Network Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Kris Szaniawski, lead analyst, Intelligent Networks, Ovum, said: “As the telecom network services industry experiences a second wave of managed services contracts, we see increased pressure on existing managed services relationships to become more customer-focused and deliver improved service quality.”

Nokia Networks said two out of three contracts are multi-vendor managed services deals. These contracts are covering approximately 200 million subscribers and 35000 sites. About 40 percent of these subscribers are supported by operators who are new managed services customers to Nokia Networks.

Nokia Networks is managing more than 230,000 sites and 500 million subscribers across the world.
