Reliance Communications shows less impressive revenue in Q3 against Airtel, Idea Cellular

Telecom service provider Reliance Communications announced less impressive financial result in the third quarter as compared with Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular. Its 3G user base reached 11.1 million as it introduced Apple iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s on its network.

While India revenue growth was marginal, Reliance Communications said its international revenue dipped 8.3 percent to Rs 1,090 crore in the third quarter of fiscal 2014.

Reliance Communications posted 1.9 percent y-o-y growth in revenue to Rs 5,403 crore in the third quarter of fiscal 2014. Net profit rose 2.7 percent to Rs 108 crore.

Last week, Bharti Airtel said its third quarter revenue rose 13.3 percent to Rs 21,939 crore. Net profit grew 115.1 percent to Rs 610 crore. Mobile internet – driven by 2G and 3G – contributed significantly to the growth.

Idea Cellular, the Aditya Birla group firm, posted 9.4 percent annual growth in Total Minutes of Use and 107.6 percent in data volume. Idea Cellular’s third quarter revenue rose 18.6 percent to Rs 6,613 crore from the year-ago quarter. Its net profit grew 105 percent to Rs 467 crore.

Vodafone, one of the rivals of the Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Communications, clocked marginal decrease in its service revenue of £937 million in the third quarter of 2013 from £956 million in the same period previous fiscal.

Reliance Communications on Thursday said its India revenue rose 3.2 percent to Rs 4,637 crore.

Voice revenue of Reliance Communications increased 6.5 percent to Rs 3,417 crore.

Revenue per minute rose 5.1 percent to 33.5 paisa.

Voice RPM increased 8.4 percent to 33.5 paisa.

ARPU increased 11.6 percent to Rs 125.

Reliance Communications’ data subscriber base rose 31.2 percent to 36.2 million including 11.1 million 3G customers in Q3.

Data traffic up 85.2 percent to 41,702 million MB. The traffic has increased due to increase in data subscribers and higher data usage per customer. During the third quarter, Reliance Communications introduced Apple iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s on its network to attract premium users.

Reliance Communications says data usage per user increased 41.4 percent to 396 MB.

There is no guidance of Capex at this point of time.
