T-Mobile adds huge customer base from Sprint, Verizon, AT&T

T-Mobile CEO John LegereAmerican telecom network operator T-Mobile today revealed indication about a strong performance — in terms of wireless subscriber additions — in Q3 2016.

The net addition of wireless users was nearly 950,000 in the third quarter of 2016. T-Mobile will be revealing the exact number on 22 September when it declares its financial report.

Investment in telecom networks and the introduction of compelling packages have prompted America’s wireless customers to look for alternative options and join T-Mobile networks that are expanding across the country.

The fact that T-Mobile is learnt to have added nearly 300,000 customers from Sprint, nearly 250,000 from Verizon and nearly 400,000 wireless customers from AT&T in Q3 alone shows the successful strategy of the telecom major.

“Sprint donated nearly 300K customers to TMUS. Verizon donated over 250K customers to TMUS. ATT donated nearly 400K customers to TMUS,” said T-Mobile in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Thanks to investment program, T-Mobile network now covers nearly 312 million people and reaches 99.7 percent of the consumers that Verizon does.

T-Mobile said financial results for the third quarter of 2016 show that consumers are flocking to the Un-carrier in a quarter that saw the company introduce T-Mobile ONE, announce key network milestones and witness the strongest iPhone pre-order in company history.

T-Mobile said it already surpassed Q2 2016 levels in key subscriber performance metrics including branded postpaid phone and prepaid net customer additions. T-Mobile also shared that overall industry postpaid porting ratios are improving vs. the previous quarter, including ports with each of the three major wireless carriers over Q2 2016.

In addition to these, T-Mobile continues to see strong flows of new first time customers coming to market, customers adding lines to their existing accounts and to a lesser degree switching from brands other than the big 3.

The company has added approximately 753,000 branded postpaid phone net additions and 650,000 prepaid net customer additions.

“All three wireless carriers tried to match Un-carrier signature moves this quarter, like getting rid of overages and introducing unlimited data plans, but as usual, they came up short,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile.

T-Mobile has built the densest, highest-capacity LTE network, with more spectrum per customer than either Verizon or AT&T, and more cell sites per customer.

“T-Mobile covers nearly everyone Verizon reaches. I’m calling it. Verizon’s coverage advantage is gone,” said Neville Ray, CTO of T-Mobile.
