Cisco, Dell EMC and HPE share in infrastructure market

Research firm Canalys has revealed the latest IT infrastructure market share of Cisco, Dell EMC and HPE in 2017.

Cisco has 20 percent share in infrastructure market in 2017 followed by Dell EMC with 15 percent and HPE with 14 percent.

HPE was the second largest infrastructure company in 2016 with 15.5 percent share. HPE lost the second position in the global infrastructure market to Dell EMC in 2017.

Cisco lost its infrastructure market share in 2017 from 22.5 percent in 2016. Dell EMC has maintained its infrastructure share at 15 percent in both 2017 and 2016.

The total infrastructure market was $142 billion (+7.3 percent) including $66 billion (+12.2 percent) from servers, $50 billion (+4.3 percent) from networking and $26 billion (+1.6 percent) from storage in 2017.

The report said top three infrastructure vendors in 2017 were Cisco, Dell EMC and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), which collectively accounted for 50 percent of total worldwide shipments.

“Cisco’s dominance in networking helped it maintain its lead of 20 percent in the overall infrastructure market. Its focus is on moving its predominantly hardware-centric customer base to software and subscriptions,” said Canalys Principal Analyst Matthew Ball.
