HPE displaces Dell as storage market leader in India

Share of HPE and Dell in storage market in IndiaHPE has displaced Dell as storage market leader in India with 32.4 percent share in Q2 2017, said IT analyst firm IDC.

Large storage deals from telecommunications and banking sectors drove the growth for HPE. Mobile operators such as Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Idea Cellular and Vodafone have made significant Capex (capital expenditure) in telecom infrastructure to boost their data networks.

IBM and Dell posted double-digit decline in storage revenue.

HPE and NetApp achieved high double-digit growth in storage market revenue in the second quarter of 2017.

Storage market grew 8.6 percent to $70 million in Q2 2017.

“The explosion of the digital data, clearly poses organizations to variety of challenges which can be converted to significant opportunity. The challenge is to manage huge data volumes with right set of storage technologies to derive meaningful information for better decision making,” said Dileep Nadimpalli, associate research manager, Enterprise Infrastructure, IDC India.

Uptake of All Flash Arrays (AFA), hyper converged infrastructure and software defined storage are the key technology trends in the market. All the global cloud providers and third party data centre players are investing in storage infrastructure.

IDC India said the enterprise storage systems market is expected to grow in single digit in terms of compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for 2016 – 2021. IoT, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data, etc. across verticals would fuel demand for new storage technologies in near future.
