TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has revealed the wireless market share of Reliance Jio and Airtel in August 2017.

TRAI said the number of wireless subscribers fell 0.08 percent to 1,185.84 million in August 2017 from July.

The wireless subscription in urban areas increased 0.65 percent to 687.14 million in August. Wireless subscription in rural areas declined 1.07 percent to 498.70 million.

The wireless tele-density in India declined to 91.87. The share of urban and rural wireless subscribers in total number of wireless subscribers was 57.95 percent and 42.05 percent respectively at the end of August.

TRAI data indicates that Airtel lost wireless subscribers in August 2017 as Reliance Jio, Tata Docomo and BSNL added mobile phone users to their networks.

TRAI said the number of broadband subscribers increased 1.81 percent to 316.48 million.

Top broadband service providers are Reliance Jio (132.68 million), Bharti Airtel (60.14 million), Vodafone (43.56 million), Idea Cellular (29.46 million) and BSNL (21.69 million).

Top five wired broadband service providers are BSNL (9.6 million), Bharti Airtel (2.11 million), Atria Convergence Technologies (1.24 million), MTNL (0.96 million) and YOU Broadband (0.66 million).

Top five wireless broadband service providers are Reliance Jio (132.68 million), Bharti Airtel (58.03 million), Vodafone (43.55 million), Idea Cellular (29.46 million) and Reliance Communications (10.87 million).
