Rural mobile subscriber base to touch 500 mn in India

The latest TRAI report indicates that India’s wireless customer base in rural areas is reaching towards 500 million at the end of 2017.

Airtel has 24.85 percent share in India’s mobile services market against Vodafone India’s 18.2 percent, Idea Cellular’s 16.83 percent, Reliance Jio’s 13.71 percent, BSNL’s 9.24 percent and Aircel’s 7.28 percent.

Total wireless subscribers increased 0.43 percent from 1,162.47 million in November 2017 to 1,167.44 million in December 2017.

The wireless subscription in urban areas increased 0.53 percent from 664.94 million in November to 668.44 million in December 2017.

India’s wireless subscriptions in rural areas increased 0.29 percent from 497.53 million to 499 million during the month.

India’s wireless tele-density increased from 89.81 in November to 90.11 in December. Urban wireless tele-density increased from 162.84 in November to 163.44 in December. India’s rural wireless teledensity increased from 56.15 to 56.28.

The share of urban and rural wireless subscribers in total number of wireless subscribers was 57.26 percent and 42.74 percent respectively in December 2017.

Wireline phone

Wireline subscribers declined from 23.41 million in November to 23.23 million in December. The share of urban and rural subscribers in total wireline subscribers were 85.28 percent and 14.72 percent respectively in December.

Broadband

India’s broadband subscriber base increased 3.47 percent from 350.70 million in November to 362.87 million in December.

Reliance Jio is the largest broadband operator in India.

Reliance Jio Infocom with 160.09 million, Bharti Airtel with 71.09 million, Vodafone India with 52.44 million, Idea Cellular with 34.81 million and BSNL with 21.95 million are top broadband operators in India.

BSNL is the largest wireline broadband service provider in India.

The top five wired broadband operators are BSNL (9.38 million), Bharti Airtel (2.15 million), Atria Convergence Technologies (1.28 million), MTNL (0.91 million) and Hathway Cable & Datacom (0.73 million).

Reliance Jio is the largst 4G operator in India.

The top five wireless broadband service providers are Reliance Jio (160.09 million), Bharti Airtel (68.94 million), Vodafone (52.43 million), Idea Cellular (34.80 million) and BSNL (12.57 million).
