Test and measurement (T&M) vendor Tektronix has added 50 GHz and 23 GHz models to its DPO70000SX Performance Oscilloscope series.

Currently, Tektronix has 70 GHz and 33 GHz models.

The new 50 GHz product is suitable for engineers and researchers who want to benefit from the superior low-noise performance of the asynchronous time interleaving (ATI) architecture for technologies such as 28 GBaud PAM4 and Kband frequency testing.

The company claims that the DPO70000SX Series Performance Oscilloscopes deliver the lowest-noise and highest fidelity of any ultra-high bandwidth real-time oscilloscope available on the market today.

Tektronix said 50 GHz and 70 GHz ATI oscilloscopes allow engineers to more accurately capture and measure higher frequency signals with up to 30 percent less system noise than the legacy frequency interleaving approaches used by other oscilloscope manufacturers.

“With our flagship model offering 10 percent more bandwidth, 25 percent higher sample rate and 30 percent lower noise than the nearest major competitor, we wanted to extend our portfolio to cover a broader variety of engineers and researchers who are serious about signal integrity,” said Brian Reich, general manager Performance Oscilloscopes, Tektronix.

Tektronix’ ATI architecture uses a symmetrical technique that delivers signal energy to both digitizing paths resulting in an inherent noise advantage when signals are reconstructed. The 50 GHz instrument’s ATI channel offers 200 GS/s sample rate for 5 ps/sample resolution. It also has two standard (non-ATI) 33 GHz channels with 100 GS/s sample rate for 10 ps/sample resolution.

DPO70000SX oscilloscopes use a compact 5 1/4 inch form factor so the instrument can be positioned very close to the device under test (DUT) for shorter cable lengths and cleaner signals. Each unit fits in a single 3U rackmount space, or two oscilloscopes can be stacked in the same space as a single standard bench oscilloscope.

The price of 50 GHz ATI units will be $290,000, while two-unit system is priced at $435,000. The price of 23 GHz non-ATI unit is $182,000.

Meanwhile, Tektronix announced analysis tools for emerging PAM4 modulation measurement needs with full support for both optical and electrical interfaces. The new tools operate on both DPO70000SX 70 GHz real time and DSA8300 equivalent time oscilloscopes.

PAM4 is being adopted in the latest 400 Gigabit Ethernet standard by the IEEE P802.3bs working group for 400G (typically 8 x 50G) electrical and optical interfaces. Compared to NRZ that uses two-level signaling, the four-level scheme used in PAM4 significantly increases signal complexity and places new demands on test equipment for performance and noise sensitivity.

In another development, Tektronix said it implemented SignalVu software on its DPO70000SX ATI Performance Oscilloscopes – allowing researchers to perform RF modulation measurements with unprecedented margins of error.
