Viavi displays test solutions for optical networks at ECOC 2016

Testing solutions company Viavi announced advancement in 100G, 400G and other high-speed optical network technologies with Finisar, Inphi, Ixia and others.

With unexpected demand for bandwidth and new services, operators worldwide are accelerating deployment of high-speed optical technologies from access to the core. Many of these technologies like 400G need industrial collaboration to become standardized.

Viavi revealed that its Gigabit Monitor has tracked acceleration in gigabit internet to end users, with over 70 percent of deployments launched since the start of 2015. Study done by the testing company concluded that enterprises are signaling a shift to 100 GbE, with one in four having implemented it, and two out of three planning to do so by 2017.

# 400G Optical Network Tester

Viavi ONT has first 400G support for forward error correction (FEC) and PAM4 modulation.

# Demonstration with Inphi

Inphi will demonstrate the capabilities of a 400G PAM4 PHY IC solution using Viavi 400G ONT. Using the traffic generation capabilities of the 400G ONT coupled with its electrical adapter, it demonstrates 400G Ethernet traffic transmitted over optical fiber using Inphi PAM4 solution.

# Demonstration with Finisar and Ixia

Viavi will host a demonstration of interoperability between the 400G ONT and Ixia 400GbE test system, connected by Finisar CFP8 modules and fiber. The application in Layer 1-3 including module validation, physical layer, and electrical adapters will be demonstrated in conjunction with Ixia in-depth Layer 2-4 and PCS/FEC test capabilities.

# 400G Industry Forum

Following ECOC, Viavi is hosting a forum for industry leaders to present their perspectives on 400G on market requirements; state of the technology; and the path forward to standardization, for developing interoperability and scalability.

Ixia will team up to demonstrate a public interoperability demonstration of a test system running bi-directional 400GbE line rate traffic with RS-544 Forward Error Correction (FEC) as currently defined in the IEEE 802.3bs draft standard.

Ixia and Viavi will also demonstrate full interoperability of independently developed MAC, PCS, and RS-544 FEC IP by each company, including the FEC element for 400GbE error-free data packets to be carried over fiber links, on readily available hardware components.

Ixia will demonstrate FEC with traffic at the full line rate of 400GbE, which is approximately 600 million packets per second. In this demonstration, real-time FEC encoding will take place on the outgoing traffic data path, and at the same time FEC error correction will operate on the incoming traffic data path.
