4G fuels China Mobile revenue to grow 9% in first quarter

Telecom network operator China Mobile today said its revenue increased 8.7 percent to RMB 177.5 billion in the first quarter of 2016 fuelled by an addition of 64.23 million 4G customers.

The addition of 64.23 million 4G subscribers in Q1 to reach a total of 377 million has assisted China Mobile to clock 148 percent growth in mobile data traffic.

China Mobile has 834 million mobile customers including 377 million 4G customers and 153 million 3G customers.

Due to the impact by OTT players, China Mobile’s voice services and SMS and MMS services declined in the first quarter of 2016. Voice usage fell 1.5 percent and SMS usage decreased 10.6 percent, said China Mobile.

China Mobile’s wireline broadband customers reached 60.59 million.

ARPU of China Mobile’s mobile customers recorded slight increase to RMB 57.6.

Total customers reached 834 million in Q1 2016 from 826 million in Q4 2015.

China Mobile added 7.61 million in Q1 2016 against 3.34 million in Q4 2015. 4G customers of China Mobile reached 377 million in Q1 2016 from 312 million in Q4 2015.

3G customers of China Mobile fell to in Q1 2016 from 153 million 169 million in Q4 2015.

ARPU of China Mobile rose to RMB 57.6 from RMB 48.2.

Total voice usage reached 1,014 billion minutes from 1,047 billion minutes.

Mobile data traffic of China Mobile rose to 1,216 billion MB from 943 billion MB.

SMS usage of China Mobile fell to 130.7 billion messages from 133.9 billion. Wireline broadband customers of China Mobile increased to 60.59 million from 55.03 million.
