Airtel Capex, ARPU, subscriber growth in December quarter

Airtel has revealed the Capex, ARPU and subscriber growth during the third quarter ended December 31, 2021.

The consolidated revenues for Q3’22 at Rs 29,867 crore grew 18.3 percent. Mobile data traffic at 11,014 PBs in the quarter with a growth of 34.5 percent.

India  

Revenues up 17.9 percent

EBITDA margin at 49.8 percent, up 458 bps

EBIT margin at 15.9 percent, up 313 bps

Customer base stands at ~ 356 million

Capex spend for the quarter of Rs 4,654 crore

India revenues for Q3’22 at Rs 20,913 crore increased by 17.9 percent. Mobile revenues grew by 19.1 percent on account of upside in ARPU led by pricing intervention and momentum in 4G customer addition. ARPU for the quarter came in at Rs 163 as compared to Rs 146 in Q3’21 on comparable basis.

4G data customers increased by 18.1 percent to 195.5 million. Airtel India added 29.9 million 4G customers to its network over last year. ARPU continues to be the best in industry, average data usage per data customer at 18.3 GBs/month and voice usage per customer at 1,061 mins /month.

Airtel has rolled out additional ~7.8K towers and ~31K mobile broadband base stations in the quarter to provide superior network experience. Airtel has over 37 million customers using Vo-Wi-Fi services.

Homes business segment has 4.16 million customers. LCO partnership model is live in 586 cities through this model with overall operations in 672 cities.

Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO, India & South Asia, said: “The recent tariff revision for mobile services has gone down well and we are exiting the quarter with an industry leading ARPU of Rs 163. The full impact of the revised mobile tariffs, however, will be visible in the fourth quarter.”

Revenue up 20 percent, EBITDA margin at 49.5 percent, up 268 bps, EBIT margin at 33.7 percent, up 407 bps

Capex spend for the quarter of Rs 1,397 crore·

During the quarter, Airtel has incurred a capex of Rs 29,734 Mn. The company continued to accelerate site deployment and enhance coverage. During the quarter, the company added 7.8K new towers.

During the quarter ended December 31, 2021, Airtel incurred capital expenditure of Rs 4,062 Mn.

During the quarter, Airtel incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 4,374 Mn.

Airtel incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 8,368 Mn during the quarter.

The company had 27,422 network towers at end of the quarter as compared to 24,693 network towers in the corresponding quarter last year. Out of the total number of towers, 26,278 are mobile broadband towers. Airtel has total 88,572 mobile broadband base stations as compared to 72,616 mobile broadband base stations at the end of the corresponding quarter last year.
