America, Asia Pacific, Middle East are strong focus areas
for Cisco for spreading LTE business.
Cisco’s main service provider customers include Tata, KDDI,
SK Telecom, China Telecom, Verizon, AT&T, etc.
Cisco claims that its service provider business covers 1
billion subscribers footprint, while its small cell access points reach 13
million.
Focus is growing on Internet of Things in the Asia Pacific
region. 50 percent of global mobile revenue will be in Asia Pacific by 2015. Telecom
operators are increasing data revenue. There is a significant growth in mobile
data. Operators need to know how to monetize data growth,” Ahuja added.
Recently, Cisco said worldwide mobile network traffic is expected
to increase nearly 19-fold between 2011 and 2016.
In line with its focus on service provider business, Cisco introduced Cisco
ASR 5500 platform.
By 2016, more people will access the Internet from mobile
devices than from desktops. Through the technology and services of the Cisco ASR
5000 Series and its newest member, the Cisco ASR 5500, Cisco offers
service providers the opportunity to keep up with this surging demand from
their customers.
The new Cisco ASR 5500 system extends
the Cisco ASR 5000 Series and delivers the agility and scale that
service providers need to meet the evolving mobile requirements of their
customers.
To power 3G, 4G, LTE and Wi-Fi mobile services, Cisco has
deployed the CiscoASR 5000 series with several leading global service
providers including Bharti and Verizon Wireless.
Jeff White, vice president, Service Provider segment, Asia
Pacific, Japan and Greater China, said service provider business contributes
majority revenue to Cisco in the Asia Pacific region. Mobility, video and
cloud are driving the revenue growth,” White added.
Service provider business is a strong focus area for Cisco
which spent around $5 billion in research and development. Out of the recent 7
