Transition
Networks, a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, announced
jointly with EATEL, an independent Telco located in south Louisiana, that its
latest Network Interface Devices (NIDs) are now fully operational at some of
the first commercial 4G mobile cell towers in Louisiana.

 

Unlike
circuit-based 2G/3G mobile switching centers that transport voice and data on
two separate networks, 4G is able to send both voice and data together over one
IP network. This convergence allows for a reduction in management and operation
costs for the carrier while providing bandwidth speed improvements to
consumers.

 

“We are
pleased that EATEL has selected our S3240 NID for several of the first 4G
mobile backhaul deployments,” said Kevin Faulds, director of product
management at Transition Networks.

 

“The S3240
technology provides the latest Carrier Ethernet standards to meet Service
Provider demands and wide-scale deployment challenges all in a cost-effective
platform,” Faulds added.

 

The S3240 is an
intelligent network interface device designed to deliver SLA-enabled Ethernet
services that include the latest in MEF 9, 14, and 21 Carrier Ethernet
Certifications including service performance ITU-Y.1731, link OAM (IEEE
802.3ah) and connectivity fault management IEEE 802.1ag. It can operate in an extended
temp range of -10°C to 65°C and offers both AC and/or 18-57Vdc power
redundancy.

 

Now fully
operational at different Metro-Ethernet 4G towers, with future sites planned —
the S3240 is providing E-Line/ E-LAN services to the local EATEL and National
Provider networks with a combination of copper and fiber 1G port connections.

extensive test and certification approval process with our Providers, we
selected Transition Networks’ S3240 NID as it had all of the OAM functions we

technology,” Miller added.

 

Transition Networks recently announced that it will be showcasing its comprehensive broadband
hardware portfolio at Broadband World Forum this month, highlighting the
company’s increasing presence across Europe following the acquisition of
