Motorola Solutions completes phase 1 public safety LTE basic functionality testing

By Telecom Lead Team: Motorola Solutions, a provider of
Public Safety Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks, devices, applications and
services, has completed the Public Safety Communications Research Program
(PSCR) LTE Demonstration Network Test Plan, Phase 1 in Boulder, Colo.

The results show that Motorola has completed basic
functionality testing of its Public Safety LTE solution at the National
Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) facility and supports the work of
the PSCR team.

Motorola previously announced the first commercial
release of standards-based LTE technology to public safety, with shipments
beginning on November 11, 2011.

As Motorola continues to deploy LTE networks nationwide,
participation with PSCR in their testing of Public Safety LTE equipment will
continue as prescribed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to help
ensure interoperability between various LTE deployments using the Public Safety
Spectrum Trust (PSST) block of spectrum.

Combined with a complete suite of Public Safety LTE
services that span planning, integration, support and hosting, Motorola is
helping to accelerate emerging broadband multimedia capabilities in public
safety.

As part of the PSCR/NIST Phase 1 testing, Motorola
completed the Physical Layer, Messaging/Protocol, Application and Performance
basic functionality testing.

Motorola supplied LTE infrastructure equipment, user
devices and public safety applications to validate proper operation of the
system.

Motorola is installing a Public Safety LTE core now and
integrating other necessary equipment at the NIST Colorado facility in early
2012 to facilitate optimal Phase 2 and Phase 3 testing.

By February 2012, it is expected that Phase 2 testing
will commence for a detailed determination of the performance of LTE equipment
submitted in the PSCR demonstration project. Focus areas include stress testing
of the network and extensive performance, messaging/protocol and application
testing.

In full support of the PSCR initiatives, Motorola plans
to continue a leadership position in interoperability by immediately entering
Phase 3 testing upon completion and documentation of Phase 2 testing.

The successful completion of PSCR Phase 1 testing
clearly demonstrates the continued focus and commitment of Motorola Solutions
to deliver world-class Public Safety LTE solutions meeting the mission critical
needs of our customers. Our LTE momentum continues in 2012 as we engage in the
next test phases and further illustrate Motorola Solutions’ dedication to
providing standards-based and thoroughly tested interoperable solutions
supporting the applications and devices our public safety customers need in
every situation,” said Bob Verbiscer, director, Private Broadband Engineering,
Motorola Solutions.
