Opensignal report reveals 4G availability in top 50 India cities

The latest report from Opensignal has revealed the 4G availability in top 50 India cities. Top Indian telecom operators are Bharti Airtel, BSNL, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio.
Teenage smartphone userDhanbad scored 95.3 percent and Ranchi scored 95 percent in Opensignal’s measurements in terms of 4G availability.

All of the 50 Indian cities scored over 87 percent in terms of 4G availability. The availability of 4G reflects the investment made by telecom operators. All three telecom operators are making investment in 4G network.

Bharti Airtel, which has a strong presence in mobile data business, tops the mobile data speed tests done by several agencies.

A report from Kotak Securities said the latest versions of the various network performance tests suggest improvement in Bharti Airtel’s average speeds, consistent speeds for Reliance Jio and deterioration for Vodafone Idea.

Mobile network experience will overtake pricing as the primary driver of incremental LTE subscribers and usage share. Vodafone Idea’s spectrum consolidation is yet to reflect in any improvement in network performance, even in some of their focus markets, Kotak Securities said in March.

Opensignal’s 4G Availability metric is not a measure of coverage or the geographic extent of a network. It measures what proportion of time users with a 4G device and subscription can get a network connection, in the places they most commonly visit.

Delhi and Mumbai scored less than 90 percent, behind Hyderabad’s 90.5 percent. Te report said Bangalore achieved 92.3 percent, while Ahmedabad scored 92.7 percent, according to Opensignal.

Srinagar’s 4G availability score was 94.9 percent. Raipur scored 94.8 percent, followed by Patna with 94.5 percent.

Reliance Jio’s national 4G Availability score was 96.7 percent — over 20 percentage points ahead of its main rivals, according to Opensignal.

The latest UBS report on India telecom sector said Bharti Airtel is making progress in 4G, but Reliance Jio is increasingly becoming voice SIM. The study said that Airtel has made progress in increasing its share of smartphone subscribers, while Jio is maintaining its dominant share. But Vodafone Idea is losing share.
