Reliance Jio in packet microwave radio deal with DragonWave for LTE launch

DragonWave today said it will supply packet microwave radio systems to Reliance Jio Infocomm, a top telecom service provider in India, to support its 4G LTE launches.

DragonWave will provide 5,000 turnkey Horizon Compact+ links in support of the Indian operator’s plan to roll out extensive, nationwide 4G/LTE networks. The deployment will also include services to be delivered by DragonWave’s Indian joint venture, DragonWave HFCL.

Besides the Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Jio Infocomm, Bharti Airtel is also expanding its LTE network. Recently, Airtel launched voice services as part of its LTE offerings.

DragonWave in a statement said it has already received purchase orders to provide microwave products and related services to Reliance Jio.

“We believe that the Horizon Compact+ radio brings considerable value in India where backhaul spectrum is both limited and expensive. We look forward to delivering un-paralleled spectral efficiency in our customer’s network,” said Peter Allen, president and CEO of DragonWave.

DragonWave will provide turnkey Horizon Compact+ links in support of the Indian operator’s plan to roll out extensive, nationwide 4G/LTE networks.

Reliance Jio has tested DragonWave’s Horizon Compact+ and found acceptable for use as transport system for backhaul to support their upcoming 4G network. Horizon Compact+ offers a combination of 2048 QAM modulation together with bandwidth accelerator bulk compression capability, to deliver better spectral efficiency.

“This is DragonWave HFCL’s first major services win in India, showing our deployment capabilities have matured,” said Ram Raghavan, DragonWave HFCL CEO.
