Stoke names Comcast SVP Dave Williams as CTO

Mobile Broadband startup Stoke has named Dave Williams as
chief technology officer. Williams moves from Comcast where he was senior vice
president of Wireless Technology.

Prior to Comcast he was CTO at O2 Telefonica Europe.
Williams’ breadth of experience at previous companies provides an invaluable
new resource to Stoke given the nature and pace of change in the mobile
broadband industry.

Dave is joining at an important inflexion point for
Stoke. We are experiencing hyper growth in terms of shipments, revenues, sales
engagements and commercial trials. We are very pleased that we have been able
to attract an executive of such caliber to move from one of the major telecoms
players and we welcome him to our senior team during this exciting time for our
company,” said Vikash Varma, president and CEO at Stoke.

In his new role, Williams will assume responsibility for
Stoke’s technology direction and long-term business development strategy as the
company continues to expand its engagement with top tier mobile broadband
carriers worldwide.

Williams will also take a leading role in Stoke’s
participation in telecoms and technology standards bodies.

Stoke continues to experience accelerated momentum, entering the second half of the year with a
growing customer, partner and distributor base, and new offices in Europe and
Asia.

The appointment of Dave Williams further expands Stoke’s
line-up of sales and technology executives combining a broad set of expertise
in the global mobile broadband and telecommunications industry.

The dynamics of the Wireless Industry are changing
rapidly and, as consumers move from Voice and SMS to Wireless data and
ultimately Wireless Broadband, the explosive growth of mobile data usage is
driving operators to seek solutions outside their previous comfort zone of
legacy infrastructure players.

Large global operators with huge customer bases are
selecting best in class Architectures rather than relying on turnkey suppliers,
which is how the fixed Internet is architected.

Stoke is emerging as a mainstream contributor to the new
mobile broadband environment. Their technology, customer list and future
pipeline make Stoke one of the most exciting players in the market and I am
delighted to join the company at this stage in its growth,” said Dave Williams.

Dave Williams was senior vice president of wireless
technology at Comcast Corporation, responsible for the evaluation and strategy
of wireless technology solutions.

He has also served on the boards of the GSM Association,
Vantage Point, Bubble Motion, the Femto Forum and the WiMAX Forum. Prior to
Comcast, Williams was O2 Telefonica Europe’s chief technology officer, where he
merged Telefonica’s and O2’s networks.

His experience includes running all the technological
operations for Cingular Wireless (now part of AT&T) and involvement in
several mergers. Through the merger of BellSouth Cellular and SBC Wireless in
the Western Region, as VP of operations, he was involved with the company’s
network buildout.
