5G enabled digitization revenues in India will be $26 bn: Ericsson

Ericsson India head Paolo Colella
5G enabled digitization revenues in India will be $25.9 billion by 2026, a report by telecom equipment maker Ericsson said.

Indian telecom operators can generate $13 billion revenue if they take up roles beyond being connectivity providers to become service enablers and service creators. Ericsson urged Indian telecom operators to take up additional role in the forthcoming 5G services in the country.

“The largest 5G opportunity will be in industry verticals such as manufacturing, energy and utilities followed by public safety and health sectors,” said Ericsson India head Paolo Colella.

Indian telecom operators’ revenues will grow to $63 billion by 2026 from $37 billion due to growth in population, increased telecom penetration and GDP growth. 5G and 4G network will be instrumental for the revenue growth of Indian telecoms.

Top Indian telecom operators are Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone, BSNL, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Aircel and Reliance Communications. Both BSNL and Bharti Airtel have announced their 5G initiative with Nokia, one of the rivals of Ericsson.

Ericsson earlier announced its 5G platform for telecom operators. Ericsson also revealed its 5G plug-ins — software-driven innovations to bring 5G concepts to today’s cellular technology.

Ericsson today announced the launch of 5G ready radio solutions for Indian mobile operators.
