Intel to power 5G platforms at Olympic Games

FIFA 2014 to drive Pay-TV marketIntel CEO Brian Krzanich said the company’s 5G platforms will be used at the Olympic Games to demonstrate how 5G will transform communications over the next decade.

Starting in 2018, Intel will be driving the 5G showcase at Olympic Games, setting the stage for the global deployment of 5G. 5G is expected to become a reality for several consumers and telecom operators from 2020.

Intel rival Qualcomm is also aiming to showcase its capabilities in 5G area.

As part of a tech deal between Intel and the IOC to enhance the Olympic Games through 2024, Intel will focus primarily on infusing its 5G platforms, VR, 3D and 360-degree content development platforms, artificial intelligence platforms, and drones, along with other silicon solutions to enhance the Olympic Games.

IOC President Thomas Bach and Intel CEO Brian Krzanich announced a long-term technology partnership in New York.

Brian Krzanich said Intel True VR will offer the first live virtual reality broadcast of the Olympic Winter Games, providing fans the opportunity for a more immersive experience from their own homes.

Intel drone light show technology will create never-seen-before images in the sky.

Intel 360 replay technology will allow fans to experience the most memorable Olympic moments from every angle at the Olympic venues.

TV viewers at home will be able to experience what it’s like to be at the Olympic Games with a front-row seat, or choose from many different viewing points in the Olympic venues.
