ACT Fibernet reveals investment plans to boost broadband customer base

ACT Fibernet, a fiber broadband ISP, announced its expansion plans and a new brand to add more Internet customers.

The Bengaluru-based broadband operator is struggling to add subscribers in the last two years despite its investment plans. The launch of the new brand assumes significance because main rival Reliance Jio is in the process of strengthening its broadband business in 1400 towns across India.

ACT Fibernet had 1.38 million broadband customers in November 2018 as compared with 1.37 million in Oct, 1.36 million in Sept, 1.36 million in Aug, 1.34 million in July and 1.34 million in June 2018, according to TRAI data.

“Our fibernet connection, fast speeds, new offerings and industry’s best customer service in place, we will transform our customer’s experience,” Bala Malladi, CEO of Atria Convergence Technologies, said.

TRAI said India’s broadband subscriber base – wired and wireless – rose to 496.12 million in Oct 2018 from 447.12 million in June 2018. India’s wired broadband subscriber base grew to 18.10 million in Oct 2018 from 17.9 million in June 2018.

India’s wireless broadband customer base – on smartphones and dongles – increased to 477.2 million in Oct 2018 from 428.81 million in June 2018, showing the popularity of 4G and 3G data connections.

ACT Fibernet will partner with content provider like ZEE 5 and Sony Liv, amongst others, to strengthen its content offerings. ACT Fibernet is working with gaming cafes, gaming OEMs and gaming publishers targeting gaming users.

ACT Fibernet plans to launch its broadband services in multiple cities across North & West India to enhance its broadband presence. The company will also be launching a 24×7 call center and a unified call center number to address customers’ queries in real time.

ACT Fibernet aims to complete 5,000 plus wifi hotspots across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Vishakhapatnam and other locations

ACT Fibernet is working with the state government of Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru to enable free wi-fi connectivity in public libraries and schools.

BSNL is the number one wired broadband operator in India with 9.17 million customers. Bharti Airtel is the number two position with 2.26 million wired broadband customers in November 2018. Both BSNL and Airtel are also facing stagnation in terms of customer additions.
